Two heat pump quotes for the same house can be thousands apart and both be fair, because they often price different jobs. Match what each one installs, then compare totals.
Match the system
One quote keeps your furnace and adds a coil and an outdoor unit. Another replaces the furnace in the same visit. A third swaps the furnace for an electric air handler. A ductless quote heats and cools named rooms. Each has its own range in the price comparison.
Match the brand
Within one system, the brand and model move the price. A premium line costs more than an entry line on the same house, so compare each quote with the range for its own brand.
Match the work around it
Look for the line set, the 240-volt circuit and any panel work, the duct transition, the condensate drain, the pad or stand, and haul-away of the old equipment. A quote that leaves one out looks cheaper. If a quote doesn't mention an item, ask for it in writing before you compare.
- Furnace replaced, kept or removed
- Line set new, or reused after a pressure test
- Circuit, disconnect and panel work
- Rebates listed separately under the price
Hold it against the range
Put each total next to the typical price for its system and brand. A quote well above the range usually includes extra work you can find on the page, like a long line route, a panel upgrade or a second zone. A quote well below it is often missing something.
